Lawyer: Weak hubbies cause of most divorce cases now
METRO Ahad reported Syariah lawyer Datuk Mohd Zaidi Zain as saying that the phenomenon of “dayus” or “emasculated” husbands, were now a main cause for divorce.
He said 10 out of 15 divorce cases handled monthly by his firm cited men allowing their wives to support the family and forcing them into prostitution. Men were also turning a blind eye to their wives’ infidelities while they stayed at home or had their own love affairs. Some were also henpecked by their wives.
He said there was no provision in the Syariah law to charge these men although wives could accuse their husbands of shirking their responsibilities.
“The main cause of ‘despicable’ husbands is the lack of religious knowledge. They neglect the nuptial needs of their wives without good reason. Finances is also a main reason,” Zaidi added.
Motivational expert and counsellor Dr H.M. Tuah Iskandar said he received an average of three complaints monthly about husbands who did not fulfil their duties or allowed their wives to do things against the teachings of Islam.
He cited three cases where the wives had affairs or were domineering, and the husbands were emasculated because they did not do anything to reprimand their wives.
“According to Islam, they must divorce their wives,” he said.
“However, that should not be used as an excuse to divorce. It should be a lesson to the wives if they themselves did not realise what they did was wrong or did not change even after being told by the husband.”

The sub-inspector, who is in her 50s, was punched when she ordered the woman to move to an area to test her urine. The woman refused to cooperate and landed a punch square on the officer’s face, resulting in her getting a black left eye.
The woman was arrested for obstructing a public servant from carrying out her duties.
