Sabahan replaces Azmin

PETALING JAYA: PKR vice-president Azmin Ali has been dropped as PKR Sabah chief in a party leadership reshuffle affecting seven states and the Federal Territory (FT). Sabahan Thamrin Zaini is the new state chief in his place.
Azmin has instead been named FT PKR chief, replacing Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.
The other new chiefs are Baru Bian in Sarawak, Mansor Othman in Penang, Mustaffa Kamil Ayub (who was replaced as Sarawak chief) in Perak, Syamsul Iskandar in Malacca, Abdul Rahman Yusof in Terengganu and Saifudin Nasution in Kelantan.
PKR strategic director Tian Chua said the massive reshuffling was crucial to strengthen the party.
Thamrin and local lawyer Baru were appointed as new chiefs of Sabah and Sarawak respectively in a move to counter the growing dissatisfaction among the division leaders over the appointment of non-locals to head the states.
“Azmin and Mustafa were only supposed to head Sabah and Sarawak temporarily. We had always wanted these states to be helmed by locals,” PKR communications director Jonson Chong said.
Penanti assemblyman Mansor was appointed the new Penang PKR chief, replacing Datuk Zahrain Mohammad Hashim. PKR Youth chief Syamsul is the new Malacca chief, replacing Khalid Jaafar.
Tian Chua said there were no changes to the line up in Perlis, Kedah, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Johor and Pahang.
Azmin said it was timely for the president to appoint a new chief for Sabah as he had submitted a progress report to the party leadership affirming that local leaders were committed to lead the state.
Tian Chua said PKR had also formed a National Integration Council to strengthen ties between East Malaysia and the peninsula leaders. Among the leaders appointed are Dr Jeffery Kitingan, Daniel Tajem, Dr Syed Husin Ali and Dr Toh Kin Woon.
