PAS hopes seminar will reaffirm party’s stand
KUALA LUMPUR: PAS leaders hope the political seminar next Sunday will reaffirm the party’s commitment to cooperate with its Pakatan Rakyat partners.
They also want the delegates to endorse efforts to banish the perception that the party was not happy working with its Pakatan partners.
These include considering taking action against certain leaders in Selangor who had acted against the interests of the Pakatan state government.
PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub said the seminar was the best platform for the party to discuss whatever problems, whether perceived or real, that are still plaguing the party.
“It will provide a forum for over 1,000 delegates as well as our sympathisers, especially among academics to give their feedback and criticism openly,” he said at the Parliament lobby yesterday.
PAS, at its special central committee meeting on Wednesday, decided against the proposed special muktamar called by its spiritual adviser Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat and will instead, hold the political seminar at its Taman Melewar office.
Shah Alam MP Khalid Abdul Samad said he would call for a resolution to emphasise that PAS is an Islamic and non-racial party.
This, he said, was not addressed at Wednesday’s meeting.
In Bachok, Nik Abdul Aziz said he was satisfied with the decision made at the meeting on Wednesday because the issue on masterminds who were out to damage the good ties among Pakatan Rakyat’s partners was discussed at length.
Nik Abdul Aziz, who did not provide any details of what transpired in the meeting, said he was also criticised but he defended his move to raise the issue in his blog.
To a question whether he was contented that his call for the special muktamar was replaced with a seminar, the Kelantan Mentri Besar said: “I am satisfied. PAS had taken action to follow-up to what Dr Abdul Aziz had brought up in his article and this will give a good impression of the central committee’s commitment to strengthen ties with Pakatan Rakyat.
“This will remove the public’s perception that the top leadership is not reactive to issues that made the party look inconsistent,” he said.
