Badrul now BN-friendly

By SIRA HABIBU

KUALA LUMPUR: Pelabuhan Klang assemblyman Badrul Hisham Abdu-llah has quit the PKR to avoid another “PKR-orchestrated” by-election.

He said he had no choice but to quit the party, as it was the only way to ease the pressure from certain PKR leaders who wanted him to quit as assemblyman.

“I will not let go of my post as assemblyman,” he said at a press conference yesterday.

“I was elected by the people, and not appointed by the Selangor Mentri Besar (Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim).’’ Badrul said that from now on he would serve as an independent representative supporting the Barisan Nasional.

“I believe I can serve better as an independent assemblyman, without being drawn into Pakatan Rakyat government’s manipulative political games,” said Badrul, whose move left Pakatan with 35 seats in the assembly to BN’s 20.

Man of the moment: Badrul Hisham arriving with his wife, Ramizah Mazlan for press conference at Vistana Hotel Thursday.

Badrul also lashed out at Khalid for suggesting that he should resign because of non-performance.

“Since March, the allocation to my constituency was channelled to the Mentri Besar’s political secretary Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad who set up a service centre in Pelabuhan Klang,” he said. “Why set up another service centre when I am still around to serve the people?”

Badrul also lashed out at Khalid for claiming that he had failed to respond to a show-cause letter.

“I submitted a written reply to the Mentri Besar’s office on Sept 2. I have the Mentri Besar’s stamp of receipt as proof,” he added.

Badrul said he had lost faith in the leadership of Khalid and PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Khalid’s claim that I need psychiatric treatment and that I am suffering from medical condition due to an accident is a blatant lie,” he said.

Badrul said he began to have doubts over Anwar’s leadership when the latter kept giving excuses to have his sodomy trial postponed.

Asked if he would join Umno, Badrul said he had not thought about it yet.

Earliler, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said in a statement that the state government was aware of the mounting complaints from Port Klang residents about Badrul Hisham’s non-performance.

Khalid had recommended that Badrul he step down due to his poor performance. He made the recommendation to PKR supreme council yesterday and would be sending a delegation to reiterate the matter personally to Badrul Hisham.
