Umno's Abdul Azeez deliberately provoked PR, PAS claims
By SARBAN SINGH
PORT DICKSON: PAS’ Bagan Pinang by-election operations director Dr Dzulkifli Ahmad has claimed that Umno supreme council member Datuk Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahman had deliberately entered a gazetted area designated for PAS supporters on nomination day and provoked Pakatan Rakyat supporters.
He described Abdul Azeez as a “master provocationist” and that he had acted similarly during the Kuala Terengganu by-election.
“As far as we are concerned he just wants to seek cheap publicity,” he told reporters.
Dzulkifli said Azeez, who had claimed to have been assaulted by nine youths should have suffered bruises and swellings if it was true that he was roughed up.
“But when we saw him, he did not sport any such injury. In fact his white shirt was spotless,” he said.
Azeez lodged a police report here Sunday after the alleged assault.
Asked if PAS would lodge a police report to counter Azeez’s claims, he said the party would not as it had better things to do.
On a separate matter, Dzulkifli said PAS would meet Election Commission chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusoff to further discuss ways to make postal voting even more transparent.
“The meeting will either be in Kota Baru or in Putrajaya and will be held by Tuesday as postal voting will start on Oct 8,” he said.
Asked if PAS was happy with the commission’s decision to keep the postal ballot papers with the returning officer and not in the army camps, he said this was only one of the many requests made by the party in a recent meeting.
“There are many aspects of postal voting that we are unhappy about. We will discuss this with the EC first and then reveal it to the all of you,” he said.
