Now, AirAsia can fly to Paris
PARIS: AirAsia, Malaysia’s low-cost airline, has been granted landing rights in Paris.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak said French President Nicolas Sarkozy had conveyed this to him during their meeting at Elysee Palace on Wednes-day.
“The details will be worked out later,” he told Malaysian journalists before flying home later that night.
The French leader had given his approval for the budget airline to land at Orly Airport in southern Paris, barely 24 hours after Najib raised the matter with French Prime Minister Francois Fillon.
He said the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company was prepared to turn Malaysia into a centre for maintenance, repair and overhaul of all types of Airbus aircraft.
Najib added that this came out during a breakfast meeting with French captains of the industry.
He said that Malaysia could definitely benefit from the spillover effects of the industry.
On reports about the sale of Plus Expressways Bhd and other toll expressway concessionaires, Najib said the Government had not made any decision.
“I have not seen the proposal yet,” he said.
Najib added that the Government was studying the toll expressway sector and he would make a statement when there was a final decision.
According to reports, Asas Serba Sdn Bhd, had in May, proposed to the Works Ministry to acquire all the 22 highway concessionaire companies for RM50bil.
