Chor: Budget aims to bring benefits to all
GEORGE TOWN: The 2010 Budget will ensure that the fruits of development are enjoyed by all races, said Deputy Finance Minister (I) Datuk Wira Chor Chee Heung.
“These policies cannot be divisive and must reflect the 1Malaysia concept because we cannot afford to have a major split among the races,” he said, adding that the Budget was focused on guiding Malaysia towards becoming a high-income economy.
Chor stressed that this was “the best budget possible” under challenging global economy situation.
“Asia is expected to lead the global economic recovery but the process is sluggish and not strong enough to mitigate the effects of high unemployment.
“With this Budget, we will work to ensure economic growth while controlling our (national) fiscal deficits and debts,” he said during a dialogue on the 2010 Budget at the Wawasan Open University lecture hall yesterday.
When closing the dialogue, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said based on current figures, the country could not achieve developed nation status by 2020.
