Deliver or lose grip on Selangor, Kapar MP warns coalition
PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Rakyat risks losing its grip on Selangor if the leadership fails to take heed of the short-comings in the delivery process, warned Kapar MP S. Manikavasagam.
He said Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim should seriously look into changing the policy of appointing outsiders to take care of constituencies held by the Barisan Nasional and by non-performing Pakatan Rakyat assemblymen.
He should instead appoint locals or division chiefs for such constituencies, he added.
“The Mentri Besar is only courting disaster by appointing executive councillors to take care of constituencies that they are not familiar with,’’ said Manikavasagam, who is also a PKR supreme council member.
For example, he said, Batu Tiga state assemblyman Rodziah Ismail had been appointed to take care of the Sementa and Kuang state constituencies located more than 100km apart.
“She already has state executive council responsibilities. How can she perform effectively in constituencies that she is not familiar with?
“She does not know the local problems. If we do not deliver, the rakyat will kick us out in the next elections,’’ he said.
He also said that the state only allocated RM150,000 for his parliamentary constituency.
“There are four state seats under the Kapar parliamentary constituency. We are not getting RM1mil federal allocation as we represent the Pakatan Rakyat.
“Given such limitations, it is tough to deliver. But some of us are working very hard to fight for the rakyat,’’ he said.
Manikavasagam also noted that the local authorities are not giving full cooperation to Pakatan Rakyat elected representatives.
“The local authorities want us to fail. I had suggested to the Mentri Besar to seriously look into changing district officers and council presidents who had failed us,’’ he said.
