Husam’s suit to be heard April 6
KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court will hear Datuk Husam Musa’s RM4mil defamation suit against New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd (NSTP) on April 6 next year.
High Court deputy registrar Fatimah Rubi’ayah Ali fixed the date in her chambers yesterday.
Last February, Husam filed the defamation suit against two Umno assemblyman – Paloh’s Datuk Nozula Mat Diah and Bukit Bunga’s Mohd Adhan Kechik – and NSTP seeking RM2mil in general damages after a press conference at the Kelantan state assembly in November 2007.
He is seeking RM2mil in general damages from NSTP over the publication of the two articles in the New Straits Times and Berita Harian.
In addition, he is also seeking RM1mil in exemplary damages and another RM1mil in aggravated damages from the defendants.
However, the suit against the two assemblymen was settled on Oct 15, after Husam withdrew his suit by filing a notice of discontinuance.
This came after a public apology by Mohd Adhan and Nozula in a Malay daily in early June.
