CAP president’s son charged with fraud

GEORGE TOWN: Muhammed Ali Mohd Idris, the son of Consumers Association of Penang president S.M. Mohamed Idris, was charged in two separate Sessions courts with three counts of committing fraud totalling RM271,000 in cash and cheques between 1990 and 1992.
Muhammed Ali, 52, of Lebuh Bishop, was alleged to have fraudulently induced Mohamed Aslam Sher Mohamed, now 61, Ashfak Ahmad Alarakha, now 49, and Tufail Ahmad Alarakha, now 54, into giving him cheques and cash totalling RM271,000 to buy houses on three plots of land in Taman Mahsuri, Kuah, Langkawi between Aug 15, 1990 and March 25, 1992.
Muhammed Ali, represented by Ashok Athimulan, was charged with committing the offences at a developer’s office Hago Enterprise Sdn Bhd at Lebuh Bishop.
He denied inducing the potential house buyers into giving him the money despite knowing that the land was listed as Malay reserve land.
The offences under Section 420 of the Penal Code is punishable with a maximum 10 yearss jail, whipping and a fine.
Sessions judge Rosilah Yop allowed Muhammed Ali bail of RM8,000 for the first charge and RM10,000 for the second charge.
She also fixed the charges to be mentioned on Nov 24.
Another Sessions court judge Roslan Hamid also fixed the case in his court to be mentioned on the same day pending the transfer of the case to the other Sessions court.
Muhammed Ali was allowed bail of RM7,000. He posted bail.
