Norza obtains restraining order against MACC
TEMERLOH: Former Kuala Lumpur-Federal Territory Umno Youth head Datuk Mohamad Norza Zakaria has obtained an order from the Sessions Court here restraining the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) from harassing and contacting the second witness in his corruption case.
Judge Azuar Che Yusof issued the order following an application by Mohamad Norza’s counsel, Datuk Seri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, who told the court that the witness, Mohd Taupik Hussain, claimed that he was harshly treated by MACC officers when he gave his statement on the case.
Muhammad Shafee claimed that Mohd Taupik, who is also Wangsa Maju Umno Youth chief, was beaten and ridiculed by MACC officers to make him (Mohd Taupik) confess to them that he was at a meeting with Halimi Kamaruzzaman, who is the second accused, at Mont Kiara at 8pm on Jan 19 this year.
Muhammad Shafee raised the matter when he interrupted deputy public prosecutor from MACC, Ahmad Sazilee Abdul Khairy, who was questioning Mohd Taupik in the corruption trial involving Mohamad Norza and his agent, Halimi, who is his agent.
Ahmad Sazilee requested the hearing be continued on Wednesday because he did not have the original copy of the statement by Mohd Taupik on the alleged meeting.
Mohamad Norza, 43, a former Umno supreme council member, is charged with offering a RM1,500 bribe to Khadri Musa, through Halimi Kamaruzzaman, to be given to the delegates to vote for him for a supreme council seat in the Umno general assembly in March.
He is also charged with giving a RM1,900 bribe to Mohammad Anuar Yunus, through Halimi, for the same purpose.
Both offences were allegedly committed at No 38, Pinggiran Tasik, Taman Bandar Temerloh, at 6.30pm on Jan 20.
Halimi, 47, of Kuantan, is charged with two counts of giving bribes to Khadri and Mohammad Anuar at the same place and time.
Earlier Mohd Taupik told the court that he went to Temerloh with Mohamad Norza and two others to attend a function at the house of Temerloh Umno vice-chief Mohd Anuar Mohd Yunos on Jan 20.
Questioned by Ahmad Sazilee, Mohd Taupik said he did know whether or not Mohamad Norza gave a speech at the function because he was outside the house.
He said at the function Mohamad Norza had introduced him to Halimi, the former Maran Umno Youth chief.
He also said he did not receive any money or a white envelope at the house.
Hearing continues Wednesday. -- Bernama
