Speaker: Improper to use office to hand over memorandum to Badrul Hisham
SHAH ALAM: Selangor state assembly Speaker Teng Chang Khim has ticked off the Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s youth movement, the Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK), saying that his office “was not a post office” and that he was not a postman.
The AMK had wanted to use the office of the Speaker to hand over a memorandum on its protest against Port Klang assemblyman Badrul Hisham Abdullah.
“I feel offended. This is improper. They can submit the memorandum but I want to make clear that the Speaker’s office is not a post office and I am not a postman. Our office does not act as a post office to send memoranda.
“What transpired today is a show of sheer disrespect to the Speaker’s office,” he told a press conference yesterday.
Teng said the Mentri Besar’s political secretary, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, had agreed to accept the memorandum but AMK insisted on having the Speaker’s office hand it over to Badrul Hisham.
Seeking changes: PKR Youth members protesting against Badrul Hisham outside the state assembly building in Shah Alam yesterday. “I want AMK to take back the memorandum from my office. I’ll not hand it over to Badrul Hisham,” he said.
Earlier, a group of AMK members, led by its information chief Lee Khai Loon, staged a peaceful demonstration in front of the state assembly building, before the sitting began yesterday, demanding that Badrul Hisham resign as assemblyman.
On Oct 29, Badrul Hisham declared he was quitting Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) to become a Barisan Nasional-friendly assemblyman.
Meanwhile, Badrul Hisham, who attended the state assembly sitting, when met by reporters, said he remained firm in his stand to be an independent assemblyman and would support Barisan.
Badrul Hisham said he would not vacate his seat despite the boisterous crowd of 60 Selangor PKR Youths who had protested outside the state assembly.
