Soured ties with Indonesia: Who is the third party?

By IZATUN SHARI

PETALING JAYA: A Barisan Nasional Member of Parliament has called on Malaysian and Indonesian authorities to make public the identity of the purported “third party” whom they claim is spreading propaganda to strain ties between the two nations.

Sepang MP Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed said that in the spirit of the “prosper thy neighbour” policy, MPs and other elected representatives of the rakyat (people) should be made aware of the third party behind the alleged attempt to sever ties between Malaysia and Indonesia.

“We would like to know who the third party is. Is it an individual, an organisation or a neighbouring state?

“We should be made aware of this as we want to continue having a good bilateral relationship with Indonesia,” he said.

He was responding to Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman’s claim in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday that there was a “third party” trying to blow up minor issues such as the pendet dance, the abuse of foreign maids and Manohara Odelia Pinot (the estranged wife of the Kelantan prince) to promote their own politically motivated agenda to create animosity between the two countries.

Anifah, who was answering a question from Tangga Batu MP Datuk Idris Haron, said that Malaysian and Indonesian authorities were monitoring the third party’s actions. “I want to know the identity of the third party he’s referring to,” said Mohd Zin, adding that the Malaysian Foreign Minister and his Indonesian counterpart should reveal this to the public who had the right to know.
