Heavy rain expected in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang
KUALA LUMPUR: Rain, at times heavy, is expected in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang beginning Sunday till next Thursday.
Affected districts in Kelantan are Tumpat, Kota Baru, Bachok, Pasir Puteh, Machang, Tanah Merah, Kuala Krai, Jeli and Gua Musang; in Terengganu they are Besut, Setiu, Kuala Terengganu, Marang, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman; whereas in Pahang they are Kuantan, Jerantut, Pekan, Rompin and Maran.
According to a statement from the Meteorological Department Thursday, heavy rain can cause flooding in low-lying areas near river banks.
The department advised people to be more alert and follow directions from the authorities during heavy rain periods.
“People are also asked to follow evacuation orders if there is flooding in their areas or if the situation warrants it,” the statement said.
The department also issued a strong winds and high seas (Category One) warning with strong winds from the North East with speeds of 4050km/h with waves reaching up to 3.5m expected in waters of Condore, Reef North, Layang-Layang and Pahlawan beginning Sunday till Thursday.
“Strong winds and high seas are dangerous to small boats, sea recreation activities and water sports,” the statement said. -- Bernama
