Parliament adjourned over shouting row
By ZULKIFLI ABD RAHMAN
KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat was adjourned for 10 minutes from 3.40pm on Thursday after a shouting match erupted between Barisan Nasional and Opposition Members of Parliament over the issue of rice subsidy vouchers.
Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar was winding up his speech on his ministry when several Opposition MPs claimed that the voucher forms contained instructions that applicants have to get them signed by Umno division chiefs.
Jeff Ooi (DAP-Jelutong) also claimed that the rice subsidy vouchers were printed with information as if the rice subsidy was provided by Umno.
Noh said the correct forms can be downloaded from the ministry’s website.
“The forms that you got are different. Maybe the DAP is trying to do sabotage.
“I will sue the persons involved and the newspaper concerned. You are like monkeys in a circus. You are like dogs barking up the wrong tree,” he told the Opposition MPs, who were unhappy with his reply.
MPs from both sides began shouting at each other when the Opposition demanded Noh retract his statement.
Seeing that the situation couldn’t be controlled, Deputy Speaker Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar adjourned the House for 10 minutes.
