Jayanthi ‘is not key witness’

KUALA LUMPUR: Jayanthi Naidu, a witness produced by Pakatan Rakyat in the infamous V.K. Lingam video clip case, is not the “key witness” that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is looking for, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Abd Aziz said.

“She is not the one we are looking for. She probably has given her testimony and we have taken it,” he said.

He added that the witness that the MACC was looking for was a Malaysian man who has since left the country.

“I will not reveal the name. This person that we are looking for may become our witness later on.

We are looking for him but we can’t trace him,” he said.

However, Nazri said the case will not be closed as it is a corruption issue.

“At this moment, the V.K. Lingam case is classified as no further action, until and unless we get the witness. We still can press charges,” said Nazri.

He also said that there was no reason for the Government to protect lawyer Datuk V.K. Lingam although in his reply to Parliament on Monday, he said Lingam had not broken the law for allegedly lobbying on the appointment of judges.

In a statement, the MACC also confirmed that the witness produced by the PKR was not the one being sought to assist in investigations.
