Heavy rain, floods warning in Pahang and Johor
KUALA LUMPUR: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of possibility of flooding in low-lying areas of Pahang and Johor due to continuous rain forecast until tomorrow morning.
The districts involved in Pahang are Kuantan, Jerantut, Pekan, Rompin, Maran, Bera, Temerloh, while in Johor they are Mersing and Kluang, a department statement said today.
The department said intermittent rain and at times heavy rain can cause flooding in low-lying areas near river banks.
"During heavy rain, people are asked to be more alert and follow the instructions of the authorities.
"People are also asked to follow evacuation orders if there is flooding in their areas or if the situation warrants it," the statement said.
Meanwhile, the heavy rain warning at Category Yellow for five states is maintained, that is for Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Kedah and Perak.
Category Yellow is the first phase where heavy rain and thunderstorm is expected for 24 to 48 hours.
Rain is forecast to continue in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang until Thursday (Nov 19) and in Kedah and Perak from Monday night (Nov 16) until Friday (Nov 20).
In Kelantan, districts involved are Tumpat, Kota Baru, Bachok, Pasir Puteh, Machang, Tanah Merah, Kuala Krai, Jeli and Gua Musang, while in Terengganu they are Besut, Setiu, Kuala Terengganu, Marang, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman.
In Pahang, the districts are Kuantan, Jerantut, Pekan, Rompin and Maran.
The same weather is expected in North Perak in the districts of Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Larut, Matang and Kerian, and in Kedah from Monday (Nov 16) till Friday (Nov 20).
High waves are forecast off the shores of Kelantan and Terengganu tomorrow and the day after.
Strong northeast winds at speeds of 40km/h to 50km/h with waves of up to 3.5m are expected in the waters of Samui near Kelantan and Terengganu beginning Tuesday (Nov 17) till Thursday (Nov 19).
The same situation is forecast for Condore, Reef North, Layang-Layang, Palawan and Kudat in North Sabah.
