He said the family were travelling from their home in Taman Tas in Kuantan to a temple in Gambang when the accident occurred.

”We believe Balamuralikrishnan failed to notice the parked trailer by the side of the road and rammed into its back,” he said.

He said the bodies of the four victims had been sent to the hospital’s mortuary for a post-mortem.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Kogilan said he was seated in the back seat with Kanmany and the two children.

”We left our house at about 5.30am. I must have dozed off because I was suddenly awakened by shouts of ‘lorry! lorry!’ before passing out. I do not actually know what happened,” he said.

Husband-to-be K. Kupusamy, 45, said he was devastated by Kanmany’s death. ”I bought her a saree and jewellery and also rented a house. I planned to take her on a honeymoon.”

Kupusamy met Kanmany about two months ago.
