Selangor MB: Govt giving us ‘peanuts’
SHAH ALAM: Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim has blamed the Federal Government for not providing adequate finance to develop the state.
Although RM16bil in taxes are paid to the Federal Government by Selangor, the state only got RM400mil for development, he said.
Khalid was answering a question by Taman Medan assemblyman Haniza Mohamed Talha on the restrictions the Federal Government had put in place on the state government when providing funds.
“Our state has no powers to collect revenue from the Customs Department or industries but we receive the RM200mil grant from the Federal level,” he said.
He added that the money the Federal Government allocated for Selangor was “peanuts” and unjustified.
“We must see that the allocation is for the people and we should not mix politics in this as it would affect the economic environment that has a direct effect on the people.”
