Housewife who fed weedkiller to children is remorseful
By WANI MUTHIAH
KLANG: Housewife R. Seetha, who consumed weedkiller with her four children on Thursday, is remorseful about feeding weedkiller to her children and drinking some hereself.
He husband, lorry driver M. Manimaran, 35, said Seetha had asked him for forgiveness Saturday.
“She kept on asking me to forgive her but refuses to say much other than that her stomach is very painful,” said a visibly distraught Manimaran.
Seetha, 33, had given her children Darshini, nine, Usha Rani, seven, Yugendran, five and Navina, three, drinks laced with weedkiller before downing a cup of the concoction herself.
Seetha, who came to Klang from Gemencheh to attend her younger brother Surenthiran’s funeral earlier in the week was said have been very depressed over his death.
Surenthiran, 24, was one of five suspected robbers and alleged member of the PCO Boy gang killed during a police shootout last Saturday night.
The four were currently being treated at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital here.
According to Manimaran, although Seetha can speak a little, she cannot even swallow her own saliva because the weedkiller had damaged her throat.
“I can see she is in great pain and it hurts me,” said Manimaran.
He said his wife was a very sensitive person and he had been very careful not to hurt her feelings throughout their almost decade-long marriage.
He added he was waiting for his eldest daughter Darshini to get a little better so that he can ask her what had transpired.
“Darshini is still critical and I don’t want to upset her even though she is fully conscious now,” said Manimaran.
Manimaran added he believed Darshini was the only person who could tell him why Seetha had poisoned herself and the children.
“I am confused and very troubled because I want to know what Seetha was thinking at that time and what had upset her so much that she could do this to herself and our children,” said Manimaran.
Manimaran, Seetha and their children had been scheduled to return to their home in Gemencheh when the tragedy struck.
