SHAH ALAM: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has engaged the services of a prominent British forensic pathologist to observe the second post-mortem on political aide Teoh Beng Hock on Nov 22.
Prof Peter Vanezis (pic) will observe the post-mortem with Thai pathologist Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand who has been engaged by the Selangor government.
Prof Vanezis is the director of the William Harvey Research Institute’s Cameron Centre for Forensic Medical Sciences and senior consultant in Forensic Medicine to the British Armed Forces.
He has conducted more than 2,000 post-mortems involving suspicious deaths.
He also conducted post-mortems for the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal in Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia.
However, his most high-profile case was when he was engaged by Harrods owner Mohamed al-Fayed to determine if Henri Paul, who was driving the car in which his son Dodi and the late Princess Diana died, was drunk during the accident.
He was also a witness at Diana’s inquest.
Prof Vanezis was also involved in the tests to find out how a 5,300-year-old Italian shepherd, whose mummified body was found at the tztaler Alps near the Austrian and Italian border in 1991, had died.
MACC’s head of prosecution Datuk Abdul Razak Musa said Prof Vanezis would be in Malaysia for three days.
Teoh’s remains will be exhumed on Nov 21 and the post-mortem will be done the following day.
