Youths get to pick Apec leaders’ brains
SINGAPORE: Being part of a group of 116 youths from 18 countries around the world to pick the brains of leaders and businessmen at the Apec Leaders Week is a life-changing experience for Shamsiddin Sukor.
The final-year engineering megatronics student from Johor hopes to record his experience of having interacted with leaders from the United States, China and Singapore in his Facebook account.
Shamsiddin, 24, is among two Malaysians picked to attend a one-week networking programme called the Apec Voices of the Future (VOF) event here.
The other is M. Loganathan, 21, who works as an administrative staff at Segi University College.
Shamsiddin said he had always read up about world economic groups but never dreamt of getting a chance to be a part of it.
“I hope to meet with Chinese President Hu Jintao as I am keen to find out about the country’s open-door policies and economic growth. It is relevant as even our economic corridors like Iskandar Malaysia were modelled after Hong Kong and Shenzen,’’ he noted, saying he also wanted to speak with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong about Singapore Incorporated.
Loganathan said he hoped to make many new friends.”
Both said they were keen to meet with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to find out more about his economic initiatives.
