Bomb hoax empties Muar courthouse

MUAR: About 100 people, including judges, lawyers, court staff and some members of the public were ordered out of the Muar courthouse complex after someone said there was a bomb in the building.

The caller called the Sessions Court main office number at about 8.55am Monday.

A woman staff, who answered the call, was told to be careful as there was a bomb in the building. She promptly reported the matter to Sessions Court Judge Norazalan Ahmad who alerted the police.

Police sent a team to the courthouse and ordered everyone to leave the two-storey building.

According to a staff there was no major case to be heard on Monday but an auction of several houses and land was scheduled.

Meanwhile, Muar police chief Asst. Comm. Mohammed Nasir Ramli said several policemen and a bomb squad unit combed the courthouse for about four hours but did not find any bomb.

After checking the area thoroughly and not finding any explosive material in or outside the courthouse, police decided to let the staff to enter the court at about 1.25pm.

It was the second time this year that the court had received a bomb hoax call from some errant party and we will investigate the incident, he said and added the last call was made in July.
