Nalla: Anwar should not lead opposition coalition
By SIRA HABIBU
PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is not qualified to be a public leader and therefore should not eye the Pakatan Rakyat leadership post, said a former ally.
Datuk S. Nallakaruppan said as Anwar was facing a sodomy trial, he should give way for either PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat or PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang to lead Pakatan.
“I feel Nik Aziz and Hadi Awang are much more qualified for the job, and they are good spiritual leaders,” he said, adding that Anwar was qualified to be an adviser, not a community leader.
Nallakaruppan said this in support of PKR newcomer Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, who suggested that Nik Aziz should hold the post as Pakatan chairman.
Nallakaruppan, who knew Anwar for 30 years, said the latter merely gave the excuse that having an open discussion about the Pakatan leadership would only benefit Umno.
Nallakaruppan said Anwar wanted people to believe him.
“Anwar does not want us to talk about his past, but he is happy talking about other Barisan (Nasional) leaders’ past,” he said.
“Anwar is attacking the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, ministers and Umno all the time,” added Nallakaruppan.
He said he pitied those who were going all out to defend Anwar without knowing his true colours.
“Anwar is an opportunist.
“He wants people to sacrifice for him,” he said.
He added that Anwar should stop dreaming of becoming prime minister.
