By EMBUN MAJID
ALOR SETAR: The Sultan of Kedah Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah urged for greater cooperation between the Federal and state governments in conducting development projects in the state.
“Cooperation between the state and Federal governments is vital and I hope that the latter will take a similar stand when considering any matter regarding the state,” he said.
The Sultan said that since next year is the last year of the Ninth Malaysia Plan, he hoped all its projects would be completed by the end of 2010.
He said he hoped the state would prepare new programmes for the betterment of the state to be included in the 10th Malaysia Plan.
He added that it was high time the state government took action against those who failed to pay their state taxes.
The Sultan said Kedahans should pay their taxes because the money can be used to develop the state.
The state has limited resources but with good management, it can make optimum use of the revenue it collects, he said in his speech when opening the State 2010 Budget Meeting here Tuesday.
He also urged departments involved in collecting state revenues to increase the number of personnel and upgrade their collection system.
