Cholera spreads to several districts in Terengganu

KUALA TERENGGANU: Cholera, which was detected in the state last week, is now reported to have spread to several districts in Terengganu.

The State Director of Health, Dr Nordiyanah Hassan, said that besides Kuala Terengganu, the disease was now detected in Marang, Setiu, Dungun, Kemaman and Hulu Terengganu.

“The state Health Department is deeply concerned about the situation and urges the people to take precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the disease,” she said in a statement here on Tuesday.

It is learnt that as at 7am Tuesday, 378 people had been admitted to the district hospitals with 111 cases found positive.

As such, Dr Nordiyanah advised the public to take preventive measures such as drinking only boiled water, drinking homemade ice water using boiled water and to cook their own food at home. -- Bernama
