Nov 28 EGM against party constitution: MCA central committee (Update)
KUALA LUMPUR: The MCA’s central committee (CC) on Wednesday passed a resolution that the proposed Nov 28 extraordinary general meeting is against the party constitution.
MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said that 23 CC members voted aginst the EGM, 10 voted for and two abstained.
On Nov 6, three requisitionists -- Wong Nai Chee, Datuk Wee Jeck Seng and Datuk Liew Yuen Keong -- called for a second EGM to pave the way for fresh party elections.
Wong said the central delegates would vote on two resolutions — to hold fresh elections for the committee and to nullify any appointments and terminations made by president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat after Oct 10.
If the first resolution was passed, fresh polls would have to be conducted within 30 days, he said.
MCA secretary-general Datuk Wong Foon Meng said the party’s legal bureau viewed the call for the second EGM as unconstitutional and unworkable.
At the same meeting on Wednseday, six new MCA leaders were appointed to the party’s presidential council.
They are Datuk Seri Tan Chai Ho, Tan Cheng Liang, Datuk Lee Chee Leong, Datuk Ti Lian Ker, Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon and Heng Seai Kie.
Three leaders -- Datuk Loke Yuen Yow, Gan Ping Sieu and Wong Hock Aun -- were also reappointed into the council, Ong said.
Previously, Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong, Wanita chief Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, Datuk Chor Chee Heung, Dr Hou Kok Chung, Datuk Wee Jeck Seng, Yoo Wei How, Gan Hong Su, Lee Wei Kiat and Wong Nai Chee were in the council.
