Syabas urges consumers to check piping system
KUALA LUMPUR: Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) has asked consumers in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya to check and regularly maintain the piping system in their homes.
Syabas said that most water supply quality issues were due to the lack of maintenance of the piping system.
“The pipes normally are from the GI (galvanised iron) type which are susceptible to rusting and this will affect the quality of water supplied by Syabas,” it said in a statement.
Syabas said it was only responsible for the quality of water from the main pipes to the water meters.
The company said it had always ensured that the quality of water supplied to consumers was in accordance with the standard set by the Health Ministry.
It said that the ministry carried out monthly tests on about 1,000 samples of water taken from Syabas stations.
Further enquiries can be made through Syabas’ consumer service centre which operates 24 hours at the toll-free number 1800-885-252. -- Bernama
