Parliament: First reading of energy bill amendments
By ZULKIFLI ABD RAHMAN
KUALA LUMPUR: The Energy Commission of Malaysia 2001 (Amendment) Bill was tabled for its first reading at the Dewan Rakyat on Monday.
The Bill, which was tabled by Energy, Green Technology and Water Deputy Minister Noriah Kasnon, seeks to separate the powers of the Commission chairman and chief executive officer in regulating energy supply activities in Malaysia.
The CEO’s roles will be limited to the administrative and management duties of the Commission.
A new section requires the Commission to seek permission from the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry and the Finance Minister before it implements contractual work costing more than RM10mil.
