Settle RM57, 5As pupil told High scorer can’t collect result slip

NUR IZZATI AZAHAR scored 5As in the UPSR but she was not allowed to collect her result slip because she had not settled her school fees amounting to RM57, reported Utusan Malay- sia.

The pupil from SK Tarcisian Convent in Ipoh, who was in tears, was quoted as saying that although she could not hold her result slip, she was happy to prove that poverty was not a barrier to academic success.

Her mother Fatimah Ahmad, 42, said her family was facing financial problems – she is a factory worker while her husband Azahar Ariffin, 41, is a lorry driver.

Nur Izzati aspires to be a doctor.

> Harian Metro reported that a popular Malaysian singer was detained by police purportedly for having a mobile phone worth RM560 belonging to a Singaporean actor.

The singer, in his 30s, stayed overnight at the home of the actor, who lodged a report after finding his telephone missing.

The singer, who was detained in Singapore last Sunday, was released several days later.

> The daily also reported that Mistik programme host Hairi Sharizal Mustafa, 25, and producer Ziffa Zubir, 28, were fined RM2,700 each for committing khalwat (close proximity).

In passing judgment Lower Syariah Court judge Ghazali Ahmad said Hairi was lucky he did not fall when he jumped over to the neighbour’s balcony to escape the raiding authorities.

Hairi was draped in curtain cloth when he was caught.
