Malaysia Airlines to provide affordable travel insurance
SUBANG JAYA: Travellers from Malaysia, Singapore and Australia can now opt to buy travel insurance online from MHinsure.
The insurance can be purchased at www.malaysiaairlines.com by those flying with Malaysia Airlines (MAS) or other airlines.
However, those travelling with the national carrier have the option of buying the insurance together with the air ticket.
Other customers can proceed straight to the MHinsure section.
The basic plan in Malaysia starts at RM15 for domestic travel, RM23 for Asean destinations and RM40 for other international destinations, for a five-day trip.
MAS senior general manager in the managing director’s office Muzzaffar Othman said some 25% of MAS’ passengers have purchased the travel insurance online since it was launched last year.
“The premiums are affordable. On top of the normal coverage, our customers get access to 24-hour emergency medical and travel assistance,” he said in a statement yesterday.
The insurance covers medical expenses, cancellations, baggage loss, delays and other travel disruptions.
Muzzaffar said MAS was confident to see more than 70% growth in premium sales by the end of 2010 with the opening of MHinsure in Malaysia, Singapore and Australia.
Apart from online, the insurance can also be purchased in Malaysia by calling MHinsure Sales at 1-800-806-376, MAS Call Centre at 1-300-88-3000 or MAS ticketing offices at KLIA, KL Sentral and Subang Skypark.
