DAP: Phee not resigning from party post (Update)
By TAN SIN CHOW
GEORGE TOWN: The DAP has shrugged off talks that Penang executive councillor Phee Boon Poh has resigned from his state party post.
Its secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, who is also Penang Chief Minister, said Phee is still the state committee member and branch chairman for Bagan Jermal.
“Phee did not resign from any post. Even if he did, it is an old issue which has been resolved and (the letter of resignation has been) withdrawn,” he said when asked to comment on the matter after flagging off the Penang Bridge International Marathon outside Queensbay Mall here Sunday.
A Chinese daily had earlier reported that Phee, who is also the Sungai Puyu assemblyman, had submitted his resignation letter in the middle of the year after he had failed to get along with some party comrades.
According to the daily, Phee is at loggerheads with Padang Lalang assemblyman Michael Tan Cheong Heng. However, both of them have denied the discord.
State party chairman Chow Kon Yeow was also quoted by the daily as saying that he had received Phee’s letter but the state liaison committee managed to persuade him to stay on.
To this, Lim said the issue “was painted” as if it is a new issue when it is not.
“Everything is normal. All the political posts held by Phee is still the same. He is not resigning,” he said.
Phee, who was present at the press conference, said he had long withdrawn the resignation letter.
When asked who could have probably spread the rumours about Phee’s resignation, Lim replied: “Please stop speculating. We should let the matter rest. Phee is still holding the posts as a state party committee member and as a branch chairman.”
