Reveal probe findings on snoop squad in MCA, says Dr Chua
By SYLVIA LOOI
IPOH: The findings of the MCA investigation panel into the snoop squad should be revealed to close the chapter on the issue, said Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.
The party deputy president said that to ensure that those called to give evidence to the panel were satisfied, the panel’s report should be publicised.
“I would love to see the report as I was among the affected parties. If the report was not given to witnesses, it will give rise to speculation,” he said Sunday before a briefing for Perak MCA members on party issues.
Dr Chua was asked to comment on a call by Puchong MCA division vice-chairman Datuk Theng Book that the MCA snoop squad case be reopened by the party’s presidential council in light of “new evidence’’.
Theng was quoted as saying that he received three volumes of the MCA investigation panel report on the existence of a “three-men secret committee’’ dated June 10 2008 outside his office in a box about two weeks ago.
Dr Chua said he had only learnt through press reports that former party president Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting was not involved in the squad.
“Even dead people are exhumed for pathology reports. In the interest of transparency and to make sure that people are satisfied with the findings, the report must be revealed,” he said.
On another matter, Dr Chua said for the party’s sake, everyone should sit down and agree on a date for fresh party polls.
“To me, it is the same if party polls are held in January or March ... as long as it can solve the party’s internal crisis,” he said.
Urging vice-president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai to be patient, Dr Chua stressed that no one was denying him the right to demand for fresh party polls.
”The only issue is the date,” he said.
Dr Chua stressed that March was the best month to have the party election after taking into consideration the year-end holidays and Chinese New Year celebration.
Asked whether he tried to contact Liow on the matter, Dr Chua said: “I have not spoken to him directly but whether he had talked to the president I have no idea.”
Dr Chua noted that the last time he saw Liow was more than a week ago and he suggested to him that the party polls be held within 6 months.
