Nik Aziz tells son-in-law to step down as Kelantan MB Inc’s CEO

KOTA BARU: Kelantan Menteri Besar Incorporated chief executive officer Abdul Ariffahmi Abdul Rahman was ordered to relinquish the post Monday.

Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said the decision to call for his son-in-law's resignation was made on the advice of the PAS central leaders.

The PAS leaders, who included party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, deputy spiritual leader Datuk Dr Haron Din, vice-president Sallahuddin Ayub and treasurer Dr Hatta Ramli had a meeting, which lasted for about an hour with Nik Abdul Aziz, at the Kelantan Mentri Besar's official residence, JKR 10, here earlier Monday.

"All of them advised me to safeguard the good name of Islam and PAS. Their advice was for my son-in-law to relinquish the post.

"When I appointed him before, the (state) legal officer did not say anything. So I appointed him," Nik Abdul Aziz, who is also PAS spiritual leader, told a news conference after the meeting.

Meanwhile, Ariffahmi, who was also present at the news conference, said he accepted the decision and would tender his resignation.

The controversy about Abdul Ariffahmi erupted after a former corporate liaison officer of the Kelantan Mentri Besar Inc, Syed Azidi Syed Abdul Aziz, popularly known as the blogger Kickdefella, alleged abuse of power and mismanagement after Abdul Ariffahmi sacked him as corporate liaison officer on Nov 10.

He threatened to “tell all” and also claimed in his blog that Nik Aziz had asked his son-in law to step down earlier.

Abdul Ariffahmi, who is under probe by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, has vehemently denied allegations of financial irregularities involving him and the entity he leads.

Nik Abdul Aziz too came under public scrutiny after he accepted, and later cancelled, a sponsorship of RM65,000 to perform the haj.

The trip, which was to have included Abdul Ariffahmi, was said to have been paid by an individual who is alleged to be one of the contractors who benefited from Kelantan Mentri Besar Inc’s projects. - Bernama
