Aunt describes dead niece as cheerful and optimistic

GEORGE TOWN: A family member of a hair salon owner who was found dead at the bottom of a high-end condominium in Jalan Bukit Gambir here does not believe that Tan Ai Nee had jumped to her death.

Grief-stricken: They (left) said when she last saw her niece Tan at her hair salon in Relau last Friday, Tan seemed okay.

The 27-year-old, who was found dead last Friday night without any identification documents on her body, had initially been thought to be a foreigner.

Her aunt They Gaik Tin, 40, said she last saw her niece on Friday afternoon when she went to Tan’s hair salon in Relau.

“She seemed okay and told me she wanted to go for a karaoke session later.

“She also asked me to try on a pair of high heels shoes which she said was very comfortable,” she said at the Sungai Nibong police station yesterday.

They said that on Saturday afternoon, a worker in the hair salon told her that Tan had missed an appointment with a customer.

“I went to her shop and a worker told me Tan’s car was still parked in the same spot as on Friday.”

She later lodged a police report about Tan’s disappearance and when she was shown a pair of shoes, she knew something bad had happened to her niece.

“Her face was beyond recognition. Her mother was able to identify her only from a mark on her leg,” she added.

Describing Tan as a cheerful and optimistic girl, They said family members and relatives did not believe that she had jumped to her death.

She claimed a salon worker had told her that Tan left her shop at about 5pm on Friday in a black Toyota 4WD with a man believed to be her boyfriend.

“She had been going out with him for about two years but she did not seem happy,” she added.

Tan Ai Nee had jumped to her death.

They said she tried to call the man on Saturday but failed.

“He should meet us and let us know what happened,” she said.

Penang CID chief Senior Asst Comm (II) Wan Abdullah Tuanku Said said police had yet to complete their investigation.

“Don’t speculate because we are still investigating,” he said.
