Nik Aziz orders son-in-law to quit from PMBK

By SYED AZHAR

KOTA BARU: Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has directed his son-in-law Abdul Ariffahmi Abdul Rahman to quit as Kelantan Mentri Besar Incorporated (PMBK) chief executive officer following the advise of national PAS leaders.

Nik Aziz, who is also the PAS spiritual adviser, however said it was up to Abdul Ariffahmi to decide when to do so.

He said he decided to terminate the services of his son-in-law after meeting PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, deputy spiritual leader Datuk Dr Haron Din, vice-president Sallahuddin Ayob and party treasurer Dr Hatta Ramli, who called on him for an hour at his official residence here.

“They told me to advise my son-in-law to resign as the CEO to safeguard the good name of the party. The state legal adviser did not say anything when I appointed Abdul Ariffahmi as CEO of PMBK and that was why I appointed him.

“To avoid further slander by bloggers and poison-pen letters, it is better to ask Abdul Ariffahmi to resign,’’ he told reporters after the “pow-wow”. Also present at the MB’s press conference was Abdul Ariffahmi.

Nik Aziz accused bloggers of slandering and causing conflict in the party, adding that he felt at ease making the decision in the interest of the party.

He said those at fault would pay for their sins, adding that his son-in-law had suffered enough criticism over the issue.

Abdul Ariffahmi, 35, said he accepted his father-in-law’s decision with an open heart and “in the name of protecting the sanctity of the PAS leadership.”

“I would like to thank Tok Guru (Nik Aziz) for having faith in me all through my eight years in PMBK up until my post as the CEO.

“I want the state and national PAS leaders to clear my name from all slander as I believe I am innocent,’’ he added.

To a question, Abdul Ariffahmi said he would know the date to step down as PMBK CEO after accounting for annual leave.

Abdul Ariffahmi, who has been investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, has denied allegations of financial misappropriation.

The controversy escalated after blogger Syed Azidi Syed Abdul Aziz was terminated as corporate liaison officer of PMBK by Abdul Ariffahmi on Nov 11.
