By DERRICK VINESH and TAN SIN CHOW
BUTTERWORTH: Hair salon owner Lim Ai Nee was laid to rest yesterday, with family members carrying banners – with messages seeking the truth behind her mysterious death – during her funeral procession.
The banners, in Chinese read, “Return justice to the deceased” and “We hope the police will conduct fair and thorough investigations” were carried during the procession from her family home in Kampung Selamat, Tasek Gelugor before mourners boarded buses to the Berapit Crematorium in Bukit Mertajam at about 10.30am yesterday.
Lim Ai Nee Her father Lim Yong Kong, 55, an express bus driver, said he wanted the police to be fair and transparent in their investigations into Ai Nee’s death.
He added that the family found it hard to accept initial investigations that she had jumped to her death adding he wanted justice for his daughter.
Ai Nee, 27, was found dead at the bottom of a high-end condominium in Jalan Bukit Gambir on the island last Friday night without any identification documents on her.
It is learnt that a worker last saw Lim leaving her salon on Friday in a black Toyota 4WD with a man believed to be her boyfriend.
Ai Nee’s mother Teh Yoke Sim, 50, a hawker, wept uncontrollably during the funeral while a relative carried Ai Nee’s pet dog, Happy.
Yong Kong said Ai Nee was very fond of Happy, noting that the dog seemed sad since her death.
“Happy has not eaten nor slept well in the past few days. It is as if it knows Ai Nee was no longer around,” he said.
Seeking the truth: Family members and relatives holding up banners during Lim’s funeral at Kampung Selamat in Tasik Gelugor yesterday. Meanwhile, a company assistant manager showed up at the Jelutong police station at 1.15pm on Monday to help with investigations.
The man, in his 30s, was accompanied by a lawyer and had his statement recorded for more than six hours.
The assistant manager, who was said to be the last person to have seen Ai Nee alive, was later taken to the condominium where she was found dead and her salon in Relau to look for evidence.
Penang CID chief Senior Asst Comm (II) Wan Abdullah Tuanku Said confirmed that a statement had been recorded from the man.
