Mum, attacked by hornets, discharged from hospital
By JACK WONG
KUCHING: After being hospitalised being for 52 days, Tan Wan Chew has finally recovered from a hornet attack that had killed her three children early last month.
The 29-year-old mother was discharged from the Sarawak General Hospital here four days ago.
Tan and her husband Chen Tian Poh are now staying with his parents at their house in Capital Garden here and do not plan to go back to their own home at Sungai Moyan flats in Batu Kawa.
Tan fell into coma and was fighting for her life in the hospital’s intensive care unit for about three weeks.
’’Though the wounds from the hornet’s stings are gradually healing, I am still suffering from a terrible itch of the skin,’’ she told reporters after returning to Sungai Moyan flats to thank neighbour Frankie Then.
Then was the first person to come to their aid and rushed Tan, her children and brother to the hospital after the hornet attack.
Recalling the incident, she said they were attacked by a swarm of hornets minutes after they had arrived for leisure time near a pond.
She shouted and asked her children - Chen Sze Ting, eight, Tze Ying, six and Chun Jie, three - and brother Lan Chia, 11, to run to safety.
Tan was in tears speaking about the loss of her children.
’’I am having sleepless nights thinking about my children. I wonder if I could have done more to save them,’’ she said in between sobs.
Tan said she had dreamt about her children, who told her to be strong.
“I will be strong and carry on with my life. I wish to have more children,’’ she added.
Tan thanked well wishers, many unknown to her family, who had donated money and given great encouragement to her.
