Mum raped by man who promised to help her
By ANDREW SAGAYAM
KUALA LUMPUR: A woman who wanted to begin a new life with her eight-year-old daughter after leaving her husband was repeatedly raped and confined by a man who promised to help her and her child.
For one week, the 28-year-old Chinese Muslim woman was locked in a room and raped several times by the president of a private Chinese Muslim welfare association at his home in Pandan Indah.
On Nov 20, the woman and her daughter approached the 38-year-old man, also a Chinese Muslim and told him about her predicament.
The man assured that he would get her a job and a house and invited her to stay with him for the time being.
He added that his mother was staying with him and that she would be happy to have both of them as company.
The man then brought them to his condominium unit located nearby.
She suspected something amiss when she did not see the man’s mother and questioned him.
The man explained that his mother had gone to a relative house and would be back in a few days.
Later that night, the man told the woman that he needed to find out more about what happened to her for his records adding that it would be best if her daughter slept in another room as they talked.
Once they were alone, he forced himself on the woman and raped her. He then threatened to harm her daughter if the woman tried to escape.
Ampang police chief Asst Comm Abdul Jalil Hassan said on Friday, when the man left home for prayers, the woman began screaming for help.
“Her cries alerted a neighbour who broke into the house and freed her. The neighbour accompanied the mother and daughter to the Ampang district police headquarters where the woman lodged a report.
“From the information we received from the public, we nabbed the man at the Puduraya bus station,” he said.
The man is now under remand.
ACP Abdul Jalil said background checks on the man revealed that he had three previous criminal records.
He was arrested for assault, vehicle theft and extortion cases committed throughout Klang Valley recently.
“We are also checking if his association is legally registered and if he is involved in other criminal activities,” he said and advised single mothers seeking for help to go to the welfare department first.
The woman was taken to the Ampang Hospital for a medical checkup and is now at the Ampang welfare home.
