Only 547 MCA delegates at briefing: Heng
KUALA LUMPUR: Only 547 MCA central delegates turned up for special party briefing Saturday, said party Information and Communications Bureau chief Senator Heng Seai Kie.
This was far from the figure of 1,600 participants, with 1,193 central delegates, announced by vice-president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong.
“The San Choon Hall (where the special briefing took place) has a capacity of 960. But I’m informed that they had arranged only 900 chairs,” she said when met during the 10th anniversary dinner of news portal Malaysiakini here Saturday night.
Heng also said that the confirmed figure of 547 were taken from video recordings and from the party’s registration books.
“From this, we can tell that the figures given by the organisers were not true,” she said.
Heng added that those who turn up Saturday included children and non-party members.
“The confirmed number also tallies with the number recorded by JASA officers who were stationed there to monitor the proceedings,” Heng said.
Heng, who is also Deputy Information, Communications and Culture Minister, explained that JASA is a unit under the ministry to monitor the proceedings of large political gatherings as “observers.”
“I hope that everyone will learn from this experience,” she said.
