Former Indian president to star in Bollywood movie
FORMER Indian president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who has inspired millions of his countrymen, has consented to a cameo role in a Bollywood movie.
Malaysia Nanban reported that Kalam, who was in office from 2002 to 2007, will be acting as himself in the movie “I am Kalam” – about a boy who gets inspired after watching him deliver a speech.
Popular Hindi actor and director Gulshan Grover said the former president had agreed to the role after learning about the film.
The movie, which is an Indian-French collaboration with participation from the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef), is being directed by Madhav Panda.
> Makkal Osai reported that more than 20 Indian non-governmental groups would be staging a protest on Dec 12 at Wisma Peladang in Petaling Jaya over SPM subjects in the Tamil language.
Its organising chairman A. Thiruvenggadam said that due to the ruling preventing SPM students from taking more than 10 subjects from next year, Indian students, whose mother tongue is Tamil, would not be able to sit for these papers.
He said such a ruling was not in keeping with the 1Malaysia concept.
Some of the NGOs taking part in the protest are the Malaysian Hindu Sangam, Malaysian Tamil Literature Association, Malaysian Dravidian Association and Hindu Dharma Maha Madhuram.
In describing the ruling as “unfair”, Thiruvenggadam said it would eventually force the closure of Tamil schools in the country.
