Chamber to protest ‘harassment’ of mini-market trader
By A. LETCHUMANAN
BENTONG: The Pahang Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry will lodge a protest against the Temerloh Municipal Council for its “harassment” of mini-market owner Subramaniam Gopal.
He was commenting on reports that Subramaniam would be charged again on Dec 8 with four counts of running his business without a licence.
Subramaniam has already been charged twice for the same offence and was given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal on both occasions.
Speaking to The Star after chairing an emergency chamber meeting yesterday, Davendran said the council seemed bent on “taking revenge” against Subramaniam.
Davendran, who is also Sabai assemblyman and the sole Indian representative in the state, claimed that he and Subramaniam had discussed the issue with the council president in April.
“The president said he would look into it and come to an amicable solution,” he said. “But I was shocked to read in the newspapers that Subra- maniam was taken to court.” he said.
He said the council should heed the views of community leaders and academicians and withdraw the charges against Subramaniam.
