Property market on the mend, says Kong

KUALA LUMPUR: The local property market is expected to pick up in the next few months with more property launches in the pipeline, said Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha.

Some positive economic indicators were seen, especially towards the third quarter, he added.

“I expect the property market to pick up in the next few months with more projects being launched,” Kong told a press conference after opening The Star Property Fair 2009 – Kuala Lumpur at the KL Convention Centre yesterday.

However, Kong reminded the idustry players on the importance of good urban planning based on the Ministry’s National Urbanisation Policy.

Commenting on The Star’s Pro-perty Fair being held in the Klang Valley for the first time, Kong said this was a good opportunity for the people to tap the property market.

Also present at the fair was Star Publications (M) Bhd group managing director and chief executive officer Datin Linda Ngiam and executive director Ng Beng Lye.

At the opening ceremony, Ngiam said The Star was heeding the Government’s call to help stimulate the economy by providing a platform for 29 exhibitors to display their products in 113 booths.

“Visitors who plan to buy properties in the near future can shop and make comparison and make a wise decision, all under the same roof,” she said.

Visitors could also obtain advice from participating financial institutions as well as government agencies on financing and mortgage options, and scout around for homes at the Property Fair.
