Hisham: PAS has now admitted split in the party
KUALA TERENGGANU: PAS has finally admitted that there is a split in the party after spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said a certain “Kolonel Mat” was masterminding a conspiracy to topple him, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said.
The Umno vice-president said PAS could no longer hide its internal problems.
He said although the name “Kolonel Mat” might be fictional, it showed that there was indeed a split in the party caused by its own members.
“They have admitted there are problems in the party. The people can see for themselves that the split has nothing to do with Umno or Barisan Nasional.
“They can deny (the split) but they cannot continue to hide it. In the end, it is clear that the friction, which they have been blaming on Umno, are problems caused by their own members,” he told reporters here yesterday.
He was commenting on claims by Nik Abdul Aziz on Thursday that one “Kolonel Mat” was masterminding a conspiracy to topple him as mentri besar and to undermine Kelantan PAS.
Asked on the latest development in Terengganu Umno, Hishammuddin, who is the state Umno chief, said the situation was not as bad as it was made out to be.
In Jeli, Kelantan Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Mustapa Mohamed said it was time for Nik Abdul Aziz to “call it quits” in view of the recent political turmoil involving him and his family.
He said Nik Aziz should explain, by the end of this year, his stand on his position as the mentri besar following the political turmoil.
“I feel his service of almost 20 years as the mentri besar is sufficient contribution to the people of the state,” he told reporters at his Aidiladha open house.
