Liow: 13 CC members have signed letters of resignation

MCA Central Committee members resigned
KUALA LUMPUR: Thirteen out of the 30 elected MCA central committee members have signed undated resignation letters, but they will only be effective once the conflicting factions agreed on the date to hold fresh elections, said MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
“We have signed the resignation letters. But we have yet to put a date on them. We will do so when the consensus is reached for the date of the fresh election,” he told a press conference after the special briefing session at Wisma MCA yesterday.
Currently, there are 30 elected members in the central committee which comprises the president, deputy president, four vice-presidents and 24 members.
Under Article 41 of the party constitution, fresh elections for the central committee can be held when at least two-thirds of the committee resign.
In this case, 20 must resign before fresh elections could be held.
“We urge other central committee members to resign so that a fresh election can be held as soon as possible.
“This will enable the party to move forward as well as to restore democracy, dignity and integrity in the party,” he said.
Liow said MCA central delegates and members had raised their hands in a show of support for a fresh election to be held in 60 days.
He reiterated that the Wanita and Youth wings did not need to call for an election as the wings could perform effectively without internal problems.
To a question, Liow said the party could get approval from the Registrar of Societies if it planned to postpone the Dec 4 and 5 annual general meeting to next year.
