Only 547 delegates turned up at briefing, says Heng
KUALA LUMPUR: Only 547 MCA central delegates turned up for a special party briefing yesterday, said party Information and Communications Bureau chief Senator Heng Seai Kie (pic).
This was far from the figure of 1,600 participants, with 1,193 central delegates, announced by vice-president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong.
“The San Choon Hall has capacity for 960. But I was told they arranged for only 900 chairs,” she said at the 10th anniversary dinner of Malaysiakini.
Heng who is Deputy Information, Communications and Culture Minister also said that the confirmed figure of 547 was taken from video recordings and from the party’s registration books.
“From this, we can tell that the figure given by the organisers is not true,” she said, adding that those who came included children and non-party members.
She said the confirmed number also tallies with the number recorded by officers from Jasa — a unit under her ministry that monitors the proceedings of large political gatherings.
