Clerk charged over sex tape blackmail

JOHOR BARU: A 21-year-old clerk is charged with extorting money from her husband’s lover by threatening to expose a sex tape containing footages of the husband and the victim.
Siti Rohayu Mohd Yusoh from Gelang Patah, Johor - clad in a tudung and baju kurung - was calm when she claimed trial at the Magistrate’s court here.
Siti Rohayu had allegedly committed the offence at 12.30pm in Taman Medan Nusa Perintis in Gelang Patah.
“The complainant needs to be advised that the tape will be displayed in open court,” said magistrate Mohd Fuad Abd Ghani.
“It may be embarrassing to the complainant, and it is only right that she be told of this before the trial starts,” he said before setting the trial date for Jan 1.
Siti Rohayu was charged under Section 385 of the Penal Code for extortion.
The offence carries a jail term of up to seven years, or a fine, or whipping, or any two of the punishments, upon conviction.
Meanwhile, in the same court, a 22-year-old student was set free owing to an error in the investigating officer’s report.
Choong Kit Choy was initially charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 with possessing 10g ketamine and 39 eramine pills.
The offence was committed at Taman Tan Sri Yaacob, Gelang Patah, on July 15, 2006.
The court was told that the arrest report signed by the investigating officer stated the drugs were found in the arresting officer’s pocket, instead of the accused’s.
Magistrate Mohd Fuad said there was a clear mistake on the part of the police.
“This is due to the carelessness of the arresting officer; the investigating officer and the raiding officer who should have ensured that such a mistake did not happen,” he said before releasing the man.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Amira Sariaty Zainal prosecuted the case while Mohd Ridwan Talib represented the accused.
Mohd Ridwan also stood counsel for Siti Rohayu.
