Veteran Tamil actress in ICU after knee surgery
VETERAN Tamil actress Manorama – affectionately known as Aachi – has been admitted to the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Chennai after she failed to regain consciousness from a knee surgery.
According to Malaysia Nanban, Manorama, who holds the Guinness World Record for acting in the most number of films with more than 1,500 movies, 1,000 stage performances and several dramas to her credit, has earlier sought treatment in Kerala.
Unfortunately, the treatment using traditional Kerala medicine did not work, forcing Manorama to check into the Chennai hospital. Sources from the hospital said the actress, who was under anaesthesia during the surgery, failed to regain consciousness and was immediately moved to the ICU.
>Tamil Nesan frontpaged an online news report claiming that the newly formed Makkal Sakti was heading towards a major split, just over a month after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak attended its launch.
The report had quoted party leaders, who remained anonymous, as accusing party president R. S. Thanenthiran of being high-handed and failing to share decision-making with them.
Other criticisms levelled at the former Hindraf leader included his “autocratic” manner during the Oct 10 launch of his party, his refusal to share the limelight with other senior leaders, and failure to account for the funds used for the event.
The senior leaders had requested for an emergency general meeting of the party’s 27-member central committee to debate and resolve the differences.
