Ministry should deal with worker intake
PETALING JAYA: The Human Resources Ministry should be the one to deal with the intake of migrant workers to avoid exploitation, says Tenaganita director Dr Irene Fernandez.
She said the exploitation problems which sprung from the recruitment of the workers was the fault of the Malaysian out-sourcing companies which were out to make a profit.
“We created this fiasco from the 277 out-sourcing companies here. What we need is a ban of such companies and instead, allow the recruitment to be carried out on a government-to-government basis,” Fernandez said.
Fernandez was commenting on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s announcement that the freeze was to go on despite a request from his Bangladeshi counterpart for a review of the decision. He said the move was to prevent unscrupulous agents from exploiting the workers.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam could not be reached for comment.
