Alleged police runner faces bribery charges

JOHOR BARU: A 33-year-old alleged police runner was charged with three counts of accepting bribes amounting to RM11,200 at a Sessions Court here.
Soloman Thomas Lucas was charged with accepting a RM5,000 bribe from Ahmad Zulikhtar Mohd Dahari at a restaurant in Jalan Kebudayaan in Taman Universiti on Feb 2 last year.
He was alleged to have accepted the bribe on behalf of the police in exchange for not taking action against Ahmad Zulikhtar for hiring foreign workers without proper permits.
He was also charged with accepting another RM5,000 bribe from Ahmad Zulikhtar near an ATM located in a shopping mall in Taman Universiti on Feb 22 last year and another RM1,200 from the same man at a restaurant in Taman Universiti on March 3 last year.
He could be jailed for up to 20 years and fined not less than five times the amount of the bribe or RM100,000 for each of the charges upon conviction under Section 10 (a) (bb) of the Anti-Graft Act 1997.
He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Sessions Court Judge Muhammad Jamil Hussin fixed bail at RM8,000 and set Feb 24 and Feb 25 next year for trial. The accused posted bail.
